Bangladesh’s perfume market is full of copies. A luxury Arabic perfume that costs several thousand taka in a genuine store appears on random pages and in some markets for a fraction of the price — and many buyers only discover the truth an hour after spraying, when the “oud” has vanished without a trace. This guide gives you a practical checklist to tell an original Arabic perfume from a fake before you spend your money.
The short version: no single sign proves a perfume is genuine, but fakes almost always fail several of the checks below. Work through them, and buy from a seller you can verify — like our branded perfumes collection at Kuraish, where every bottle is original and sealed.
1. The Price Is Suspiciously Low
This is the biggest red flag. Genuine Arabic perfumes from houses like Arabian Oud, Ibraheem Al Qurashi, Reef and Lattafa have real import and brand costs. A bottle that normally sells for ৳5,000–8,500 cannot honestly be sold for ৳1,200. Deep “70–80% off, only today” offers on unknown pages are the classic signature of copies. Compare the price with two or three established stores first — our Arabic perfume buying guide lists current genuine prices for popular bottles.
2. Packaging and Print Quality
Original brands invest heavily in packaging. On a genuine box the cellophane is tight and neatly folded, the printing is sharp, colours match the brand’s official photos, and there are no spelling mistakes. Fakes often have loose or wrinkled wrapping, slightly blurry logos, off colours, and thin, cheap-feeling cardboard. Run your finger over the lettering: many originals use embossed or metallic print that copies cannot reproduce well.
3. Batch Code on Bottle and Box
Most genuine perfumes carry a batch or lot code printed or engraved on the bottom of the bottle — and the same code appears on the box. If the codes are missing, do not match, or look scratched off, treat the bottle as suspect. Codes on originals are cleanly printed or laser-etched; on copies they are often smudged, crooked, or printed in a font that differs from the rest of the packaging.
4. The Bottle, Cap and Sprayer
Pick the bottle up. Original bottles have weight, clean glass with no bubbles or rough seams, and a cap that closes with a precise, satisfying fit. The sprayer is a detail fakes get wrong most often: a genuine atomiser produces a fine, even mist from the first spray, while copies frequently spit, leak, or spray in a harsh jet. The tube inside the bottle should reach neatly to the bottom and be barely visible in a well-made bottle.
5. How the Scent Behaves
A fake usually announces itself in the first minutes: a blast of harsh alcohol, a scent that smells “close but wrong”, and then almost nothing within one or two hours. A genuine Arabic perfume develops in stages — bright top notes, a heart that blooms, and a deep base of oud, musk or amber that is still present after 6–12 hours. If a so-called oud perfume has no dry-down and no base, it is not an oud perfume. This is exactly why our long-lasting perfume guide stresses judging a perfume after thirty minutes, not at the first spray.
6. Check the Seller, Not Just the Bottle
Copies survive because sellers stay anonymous. Before ordering, check: Does the store have a proper website with consistent contact details? Can you call and actually reach someone? Does it offer Cash on Delivery so you are not paying strangers in advance? Does it show real product information and prices publicly? A seller who avoids all of these is asking you to take every risk.
How Kuraish Protects You
Kuraish sells only 100% authentic, sealed Arabic perfumes from established houses — Arabian Oud, Ibraheem Al Qurashi (IBRAQ), Reef, Abdul Samad Al Qurashi, Assaf and more. Our phone number (01635-726093) is public on every page, our prices are listed openly on each product, and Cash on Delivery is available across Bangladesh: ৳70 inside Dhaka (1–2 days) and ৳120 outside Dhaka (1–3 days), so your perfume reaches your door before your money leaves your hand. If you are ever unsure about a bottle — ours or anyone else’s — call us and we will happily talk you through the checks in this guide.
Quick Checklist Before You Buy
Price in line with established stores · tight cellophane and sharp print · batch codes present and matching · bottle weight, clean glass, precise cap · fine-mist sprayer · scent develops in stages and lasts for hours · seller has a real website, a working phone and Cash on Delivery. A perfume that passes all of these is almost certainly genuine — and a perfume that fails two or more is a copy, no matter what the seller calls it.
